Your biggest challenge isn't someone else. It's the ache in your lungs, and the burning in your legs, and the voice inside you that yells can't. But you don't listen. You just push harder. And then you hear the voice whisper can. And you discover that the person you thought you were is NO match for the one you really are.

Sickness Lurking Around

It is officially what my body has to deal with. I have to be sick while pregnant. I have now had the flu TWICE, a head cold TWICE (this always follows the flu), AND I received the Flu Shot this year. I just don't get it.

This is my first pregnancy and I just can't help but be nervous about the sickness. I don't want baby to be sick if I'm sick. Is the baby sick when I'm sick? I don't want the medication to affect the baby. (I don't like to take medication very often anyway) I would go a week with a headache, just to let my body try to fix it itself. (I did do this once) I'm nervous about a healthy baby. My hubby just says that children are resilient and our baby will be just fine.

I hope so.

  1. Don't worry about the medicine. In the NICU, I got to talk with a neonatalogist about what actually affects kids in the womb and doesn't (and in breast milk, too, btw) because I was sure something I took did something to make Sam sick.

The baby is soooooo not sick. If anything, you being sick is making her stronger, because you're giving her all the antibodies she'll need to resist all those flu strains after she's born (in January. PEAK FLU SEASON). She's going to have an immune system of steel.

The medication isn't going to make her sick either. You would be shocked at the stuff they let me take while pregnant -- and later breastfeed on! Valium, zoloft, keflex, magnesium sulfate, pain killer, antihistimines, all sorts of stuff. None of them affected the babies -- and I had their fetal heartbeats to prove it!

So yes, it thoroughly sucks to be sick right now -- but it's going to mean a baby who doesn't catch every bug this winter.

  2. The baby will be fine! If you are concerned about the meds, make sure you talk to your doctor. If it is a prescription, if the doctor who gave it to you knew you were prego then the meds should be ok to take. Again though, if you aren't sure talk to your doctor! If you ever have any concerns talk to your doctor. I have been dealing with sinus issues for like 2 months....those can get worse with pregnancy. It is annoying sometimes that is just what you have to deal with. You are probably just more suseptible to sicknesses right now cause your body's first reaction is to protect the baby and take care of her and her needs!!!! Love ya, hang in there, it will be over before you know it even though it won't feel like it until it is over! :)

  3. I am on board with you about the not wanting meds to effect my babies. Even though my Dr says some things are ok to take when PG i still only feel comfortable taking the absolute necessary meds. I think there are a lot of meds out there that have not been used long enough to really see lasting effects after having been used while PG. But that's just me. as far as being sick goes. your body will protect your baby and that's probably why you are getting sick so easy. because all your energy is going to protect the baby rather then fighting it off. I also know with both of the girls when I got sick while PG it hit me way harder then usual.
